LINDA VISTA PLANNING COMMITTEE MINUTES
APRIL 22, 2002 AT LINDA VISTA LIBRARY
7:00 P.M.

Chairperson Ed Cramer called meeting to order at approximately 7:05 p.m. Kearny High School Army Junior ROTC Color Guard Unit performed the presentation of Colors and Pledge of Allegiance. 

Roll call: All Present except Greg Edwards and Alfreida Jackson who were excused.  There were 52 people present.  $38.82 was collected to defray costs of operating the committee. 

Reports:
Planning committee members will be recognized at a volunteer event on May 22. Details to follow
The Linda Vista Community will have regularly scheduled police officers assigned to our streets. The same officers will be assigned rather than rotating officers in and out of the area.
Carol Barry, Principal of Carson School reported that they are working on turfing their playground.

Motion was made by Doug Beckham, seconded by Rich Bussel to pay $60 registration fee for Gail Cole and Wayne Bamford to attend a workshop on Development Abuse. It passed

The Mission Valley Gymnastic Center issue was deferred to a later meeting

Election of members to the committee:
The nominating committee, chaired by Ron Tomcek presented a slate of nominees for 5 at large seats on the committee.  There were 8 candidates.
Candidates were, Wayne Bamford, Pat Buckmaster, Julie Duenez, Edward Dooling, Rob Spahitz, Xiongh Thao, Kelly Smith, Don Wetzel, and Doug Beckham.  Elections were held and Wayne Bamford, Julie Duenez, Rob Spahitz, Xiongh Thao, Don Wetzel were elected.

Skateworld Update: Gary Stang et al made a presentation on the future of the Skateworld Lease.  The lease is up for negotiation because current lease expires in the 2003.  Several people provided testimonials on the importance of Skateworld to the community.

Gary Stang then asked the Committee support his request for a 20-year extension to his current lease on Skate world.  Letter is on file with proposed changes, including paving the former gas station lot.

 Rick Bussel made a motion to sign the letter as presented by Gary Stang addressed to the city. Wayne Bamford seconded the motion. Vote was 12 for motion, 2 against and 2 abstentions.

 Donna Griffith from People for Trees made a presentation. People For Trees has 15-gallon shade trees to be planted in the neighborhood at little or no cost.

Mini-Storage for Sherman Street.  Doug Jensen, Managing Partner of Storage, etc. requested the conversion of the storage building at 1010 Sherman Street into a landscaped self-storage facility.  There was a parking variance requested.  The use is not traffic intensive. Bill Tripp of City Staff supported the project.
 
Don Ballantyn moved, seconded by Liliani Stiffler to support the whole project as presented by city staff. All voted in favor of motion.

Landscape Maintenance Assessment District Election will take place in June.  The following candidates were presented. Others may become candidates until the June LVPC meeting. They are: Joshan Collins, Ed Farley, Wayne Bamford, Ed Roth, Janice Richmond, Charles Lane, Jo-Ann Carini, Liliani Stiffler and Ester McNulty,

Doug Beckham moved to approve the minutes of the March meeting as presented, Pat Buckmaster seconded the motion.  All approved.
